Align Instances Naming

Rename product instances to match their part numbers automatically, keeping your CATIA tree consistent after any part number change.

Change a part’s number and CATIA leaves every instance calling it by the old name, one silent inconsistency for every part you rename. Align Instances Naming sweeps through your product structure and lines every instance name back up with its part number, so the tree reads the way it should.

What it does

  • Realigns instance names to part numbers, every instance in the current product is renamed to match the part number of the part it actually references.
  • Numbers duplicates predictably, when the same part is instanced more than once, each copy gets a clear, ordered suffix instead of a random CATIA-generated one.
  • Leaves the rest untouched, instances that don’t reference a valid part number are skipped, never guessed at or renamed incorrectly.

How It Works

Run the command on the active assembly. The tool scans the product structure, compares each instance name with the Part Number of its referenced component, and automatically updates any mismatches. When multiple instances reference the same component, a consistent sequential numbering scheme is applied to keep them clearly distinguishable.

Where it fits

Included from the Starter plan up, so it’s available whatever plan you’re on. It’s the kind of pass you run after part number changes settle down, a quick way to bring the tree back in line before a review or a release, without hand-renaming instances one at a time.
